Social Security Administration(SSA)

Definition

Government operated organization that handles retirement and disability  payments for Americans.

• Functions of the SSA include the following:
• Collecting social security contributions on behalf of individuals. These amounts are withheld from employee’s salary/income by employers and remitted to the SSA
• Pay retirement, disability and survivors benefits to workers and their families and administer the Supplemental Security Income program
