Send this Q&A to a friend

Q: What is the required beginning date?

A: The required beginning date (RBD) is the deadline by which an individual must take his or her first required minimum distribution (RMD) from his or her retirement account. Generally, the RBD is April 1 of the year that the retirement account owner reaches age 70 1/2. But exceptions may apply to qualified plans, 403(b) accounts and 457(b)  plans.
